Restructuring of Eaglescliffe Operational Site 2004

Elementis Chromium is the world's largest producer of
chromium chemicals. It has a manufacturing plant in
Eaglescliffe in the North East of England and two plants
in the USA one in Southern Texas, and one in North
Carolina. Elementis Chromium is a Division of Elementis
plc a speciality chemicals company with leading
positions in the markets in which the company operates.
The Eaglescliffe site today employs around 230 people
In April of last year the company announced a
restructuring of the sites’ operational activities. The aim
of the restructuring was to prepare and protect the
Eaglescliffe site for the future. It focused on improving
production capability, driving manufacturing excellence,
better delivery of customer requirements and reducing
the cost base.
The restructuring resulted not only in a reduction of the
workforce by approximately 10% but also recruitment in
areas where skills were identified as being short. The
restructuring was successfully implemented through a
process of full consultation with employees and their
representatives.
